We are thrilled to announce that Heinz Zimmermann, part of the winning team for the Swiss Risk Award 2023, will be our keynote:
Summary
The impact of demographic change on pay-as-you-go pension systems is well understood. Fully funded systems rely on asset market returns and seem, prima vista, well immunized. This view is short-sighted: demographics affect growth, interest rates and risky asset prices, but the effects are gradual and are not easily recognized, although they are emergent: the reduced flexibility and risk capacity of ageing funds have a direct impact on asset allocation and return expectations. From a macroeconomic perspective, international capital movements and investments in emerging markets play a critical role. This has important implications for the asset allocation of institutional investors, the design of demographically oriented investment vehicles, and the regulation of global capital flows.
