Summary

Until the financial crisis of 2008, for many banks it was a long-held assumption that they could fund at LIBOR-flat along the term structure. The 2008 experience showed how the generally stable LIBOR-OIS spread blew out, which demonstrated the significance of liquidity costs and thus led to a major revision of Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) practices from both an internal and external (regulatory) perspective.

In an environment of changing interest rates and tightening lending margins, understanding where and how costs are incurred inside a bank has become critical. FTP is a framework that allocates the cost of funding and liquidity across business units, ensuring that product pricing and profitability reflect actual resource use. It’s not just an internal accounting tool — it’s key to navigating today’s economic pressures.

The presenters will cover recent developments in FTP and present approaches used in their banks.
